The Process
How It Works
A novated lease is a way to pay for your car and its running costs using your pre-tax income, which in the eyes of the ATO reduces your total salary and therefore the amount of tax you pay. It sounds simple, but it’s a total game-changer. Here's how it works in three simple steps.
You + Your Vehicle
Found the car you want? Perfect. Now, instead of you paying for your car outright, you enter into a lease agreement for the car for a fixed period between 1 - 5 years.
You + Your Employer
An agreement is set up between you, your employer and us. Then, your deductions for the lease (including running costs too, if that's what you want) are made by your employer from your pre-tax income. And that reduces the income tax you pay each pay cycle. Plus, your deduction amount is fixed, so you know what you’re paying for your car each month.

With a direct line of communication through a dedicated relationship manager, we'll help you navigate any challenges right the way through your lease. Whether it's today or five years from now, we promise you’ll always have the same level of help and service all the way through to the end of your lease.

Can the BYD Seal use a Tesla charger?
Yes, BYD Seals can charge at some Tesla Supercharger sites. As of March 2024, Tesla has opened up 30 of its 63 Supercharger sites in Australia to non-Tesla EVs. To access these sites, you’ll need to download the Tesla app and select ‘Charge Your Non-Tesla’ and find your site.
How does a BYD Seal novated lease compare with a Tesla Model 3 or the Ioniq 6?
The reality? All three make brilliant novated lease options and qualify for FBT exemption. It comes down to whether you prioritise value (BYD), brand/charging network (Model 3) or distinctive design (Ioniq 6):
The BYD Seal starts from $166 per week on a novated lease and delivers 530hp, making it seriously quick for its price point. It offers a practical 400L of boot space.
The Tesla Model 3 begins at $190 per week, with even faster performance in its higher-spec versions, though it comes at a higher cost. It also provides the most boot space at 594L, making it great for everyday use.
The Hyundai Ioniq 6 starts from $242 per week and is more focused on efficiency than outright speed. It still offers a decent 401L of boot space, combining sleek design with practicality.
What is the residual payment on a BYD Seal novated lease?
Residual values are set by the ATO based on the lease term:
- 1 year: 65.63%
 - 2 years: 56.25%
 - 3 years: 46.88%
 - 4 years: 37.5%
 - 5 years: 28.13%

For example, on a $50,000 BYD Seal with a 3-year lease, your residual would be approximately $23,440. This is the final lump sum amount you’re required to pay at the end of your lease to own your car outright.
Can you claim EV charging for a BYD Seal novated lease?
Yes! Electricity costs for charging your BYD Seal can be included in your novated lease package and paid with pre-tax dollars. This applies to home charging and public charging stations. However, the cost of installing a home charger or purchasing charging cables separately cannot be included unless the cable comes standard with your vehicle.
How much is it to lease a BYD Seal?
Costs vary based on your salary, driving distance and chosen variant. Generally, monthly payments start from around $166 per week for the Dynamic model after tax savings. Higher variants cost more, but remember you're paying with pre-tax dollars and avoiding FBT. While you can punch in your own numbers using our BYD Seal novated lease calculator, our team will be able to give you a quote that’s specific to your situation.
What are BYD Seal’s biggest rivals?
The BYD can be compared to the MG 4,Tesla Model 3 and Toyota Camry. Find the best car for you by comparing repayments and features.
What is the real-life range of the BYD Seal?
The BYD Seal's real-world range varies based on your driving style, road conditions and which variant you choose. Here's what you can expect:
The BYD Seal Design RWD offers an official WLTP range of 570km, with a real-world driving estimate of around 450 to 500km depending on conditions.
The Excellence AWD variant delivers an official range of 520km, and you can expect around 420 to 470km in typical driving.
The Dynamic, which is the entry model, has an official WLTP range of 460km and typically achieves around 350 to 400km in mixed driving.
The reality is that even the more conservative highway range means you're easily covering daily commutes with charge to spare. Most people drive under 50km per day, so you'll only need to charge once or twice weekly for normal use.
The Seal Dynamic charges at up to 110kW DC, taking around 27 minutes to go from 28-82% at a quality fast charger. That's comparable to a Tesla Model 3 RWD and perfectly adequate for the occasional road trip top-up.
